Islamabad, August 25, 2026: Ambassador of Turkmenistan to Pakistan A. Movlamov held a meeting with Sardar Yasir Ilyas Khan, Advisor and National Coordinator for Tourism to the Prime Minister and CEO of The Centaurus Group, to discuss ways to further strengthen bilateral cooperation in tourism, equestrian sports and cultural and humanitarian fields.
During the meeting, the two sides exchanged views on expanding tourism-related cooperation and promoting closer institutional and people-to-people contacts between Pakistan and Turkmenistan.
The Turkmen side highlighted the significance of 2026, which is being observed in Turkmenistan under the motto “Independent neutral Turkmenistan – the homeland of purposeful winged horses” and marks the 35th anniversary of the country’s independence.
Ambassador Movlamov also briefed the Pakistani side on activities being organised during the year dedicated to national horse breeding and the renowned Akhal-Teke horses.
Particular attention was drawn to the first-ever Akhal-Teke Horse Championship, scheduled to be held at the Pilberg horse breeding centre in the Netherlands from September 4 to 6, 2026. The event is expected to provide an international platform for promoting Turkmenistan’s equestrian heritage and strengthening cultural links.
The Pakistani side expressed interest in establishing and expanding cooperation between specialised institutions in Pakistan and Turkmenistan in equestrian sports. The proposed areas include joint events, exchange of expertise and greater interaction among specialists and representatives of equestrian organisations in both countries.
The meeting also underscored the potential for tourism and cultural cooperation to contribute to stronger bilateral relations and create new avenues for people-to-people connectivity.
Both sides reaffirmed their readiness to support and implement joint initiatives aimed at deepening cooperation in sports, tourism, culture and humanitarian affairs, describing the relationship between Pakistan and Turkmenistan as rooted in longstanding fraternal ties.
