Islamabad, September 2, 2026: Acting President Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani on Wednesday held a series of meetings with political leaders and business representatives at Aiwan-e-Sadr, discussing the security situation, flash floods, political developments in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Azad Jammu and Kashmir, as well as regional and international affairs.
Governor Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Faisal Karim Kundi, accompanied by PPP Parliamentary Leader in the KP Assembly Ahmad Karim Kundi, called on the Acting President and briefed him on matters concerning peace and stability in the province.
The meeting also covered the flood situation in various parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and ongoing relief and rehabilitation efforts. The overall political situation in the country was also discussed.
Former President of Azad Jammu and Kashmir Sardar Muhammad Yaqoob Khan also met the Acting President and discussed the political situation in AJ&K following the recent elections, along with development and welfare issues concerning the people of the region.
Sardar Yaqoob recalled major development initiatives undertaken in AJ&K during Gilani’s tenure as prime minister, including the establishment of three medical colleges in Muzaffarabad, Rawalakot and Mirpur.
He noted that students from Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir are also provided a quota in these institutions. He further said that initiatives taken during that period had contributed to more than 16,000 students from different provinces and regions of Pakistan currently studying at universities in AJ&K.
Sardar Yaqoob also recalled the construction of a bridge over the River Jhelum during his tenure, named Bab-e-Yousuf, saying it significantly improved connectivity between AJ&K and Islamabad and reduced the travel distance by around 125 kilometres.
Gilani said Kashmir had always remained close to the heart of the Pakistan Peoples Party leadership and reaffirmed the party’s longstanding commitment to the Kashmir cause.
Former federal minister for foreign affairs Syed Jalil Abbas Jilani also called on the Acting President, with discussions focusing on the regional and international situation.
Former federal and provincial minister Syed Samsam Bukhari separately met Gilani and discussed matters relating to his constituency.
In another meeting, Chairman Rice Exporters Association of Pakistan (REAP) Faisal Jahangir briefed the Acting President on matters concerning Pakistan’s rice exports.
The series of meetings provided an opportunity to review key domestic and external challenges, including security and flood-related developments, political affairs in the country and AJ&K, regional issues and prospects for strengthening Pakistan’s export sector.
