Islamabad, September 25, 2026: An anti-terrorism court (ATC) on Friday directed authorities to produce lawyer and human rights activist Imaan Mazari and her husband, Hadi Ali Chattha, through video link in a case registered at the Secretariat police station.
ATC Judge Tahir Abbas Supra heard the case after the court had summoned both accused to appear in person.
However, Adiala jail authorities did not produce Mazari and Chattha before the court on Friday.
The judge subsequently adjourned the proceedings until Saturday and directed the jail authorities to ensure that both accused were produced through video link.
“I am fixing the case for tomorrow. Both should be produced through video link,” the judge remarked.
Mazari and Chattha were arrested last week and sent to Adiala jail on judicial remand, hours after the Supreme Court suspended their sentences and granted them bail in a separate case.
According to Islamabad police sources, the couple was arrested in connection with a case involving allegations of an anti-state narrative, incitement and interference in government affairs.
On the same day, the Supreme Court suspended their sentences in a case related to controversial social media posts and granted them bail against surety bonds of Rs200,000 each pending a final decision in a case before the Islamabad High Court.
In January, an Islamabad district and sessions court had sentenced Mazari and Chattha to 17 years in prison each under different sections of the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act (Peca), a day after their arrest in another case.
The couple subsequently challenged the convictions before the Islamabad High Court in early February.
They had initially been booked by the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency under Sections 9, 10, 11 and 26 of Peca. The FIR alleged that their social media posts sought to incite divisions on linguistic grounds.
