Islamabad, September 30, 2026: Mohammad Zikria Akbar Zia on Wednesday formally assumed office as President of the Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ICCI), pledging to strengthen the Chamber’s advocacy for the business community and pursue practical solutions to issues confronting businesses.
Mohammad Ashfaq Hussain Chatah and Mohammad Waqas Khan also took oath as Senior Vice President and Vice President, respectively, during the 42nd Annual General Meeting (AGM) of ICCI.
The oath was administered by Sheikh Tariq Sadiq, Chairman of the ICCI Founder Group, while former ICCI President Mohammad Ejaz Abbasi served as master of ceremonies. A large number of ICCI members attended the AGM, reflecting strong participation by the business community.
Addressing the gathering, Zikria Akbar Zia said his foremost priority would be to effectively represent the business community and pursue practical advocacy to resolve issues affecting businesses.
He said ICCI would continue engaging with relevant government institutions to promote an environment conducive to investment, trade and entrepreneurship, with the broader objective of supporting sustainable economic growth in Islamabad and across the country.
The newly elected president thanked the ICCI Founder Group and Chamber members for placing their confidence in him and said he would strive to meet their expectations.
He also acknowledged the contributions of the outgoing leadership, saying the new team would build on the work already undertaken while introducing further initiatives to strengthen ICCI’s role as an effective voice for the business community.
Senior Vice President Mohammad Ashfaq Hussain Chatah and Vice President Mohammad Waqas Khan also addressed the ceremony and reaffirmed their commitment to working with the president and Executive Committee to promote and protect the interests of the business community.
Outgoing ICCI President Sardar Tahir Mehmood congratulated the newly elected office-bearers and expressed confidence that the new leadership would further strengthen the Chamber’s role in serving the business community.
He highlighted key achievements during his tenure and said he hoped the incoming leadership would carry forward the Chamber’s legacy and build on the progress made by the outgoing team.
Chairman ICCI Founder Group Sheikh Tariq Sadiq expressed optimism about the new leadership and said he expected it to continue advancing the interests of the business community. He also acknowledged the achievements of the outgoing team and thanked ICCI members for their confidence in the Founder Group’s candidates.
Outgoing Senior Vice President Tahir Ayub and Vice President Mohammad Irfan Chaudhry also highlighted major initiatives undertaken during their tenure and extended their best wishes to the newly elected office-bearers.
Earlier, Secretary General Ghulam Murtaza presented the agenda before the House, which was adopted by an overwhelming majority.
The 42nd AGM concluded with the new leadership reaffirming its commitment to strengthening ICCI’s advocacy role, enhancing engagement with government and other stakeholders, and working towards a more business-friendly environment in Islamabad and beyond.
