Islamabad, September 30, 2026: Pakistan on Wednesday expressed deep sorrow over the deaths of five crew members during an operation to recover the hijacked vessel MT Honour 25 off the coast of Somalia.
According to the Foreign Office, three of those killed were Pakistani nationals — Rafi Ullah Khan, Syed Kashif Umer and Mahmood Ahmed Ansari.
“The Government and people of Pakistan extend their deepest condolences to the bereaved families,” the Foreign Office said in a statement, adding that Pakistan shared the families’ grief and prayed for strength and patience for them.
Four crew members were also injured in the operation, including three Pakistani nationals. The injured were shifted to a nearby hospital for medical treatment, while the surviving crew members of MT Honour 25 were safely brought ashore at Bandar Beyla.
The Foreign Office said Pakistan’s team at the Embassy in Djibouti was travelling to Bandar Beyla to assist the Pakistani nationals.
“The Government of Pakistan, through its Mission and relevant authorities, remains in close contact with the Somali authorities and other concerned stakeholders,” the statement said.
It added that every possible effort was being made to ensure proper medical care for the injured, facilitate the transportation of the mortal remains of the deceased and ensure the safe return of the surviving Pakistani crew members.
