Dubai, October 2,2026: Asian Cricket Council (ACC) President Mohsin Naqvi will not attend the medal ceremony for the Asian Games men’s cricket competition, scheduled to follow Saturday’s final between Pakistan and India at Korogi Sports Park in Nisshin, Japan.
The ACC confirmed Naqvi’s absence through its official social media accounts, citing “prior commitments”. He extended his best wishes to all four teams competing in the gold and bronze medal matches.
“ACC President, Mr. Mohsin Naqvi, will miss Finals Day at [Asian Games 2026] due to prior commitments, but sends his very best wishes to all four teams ahead of the Gold and Bronze Medal Matches,” the ACC said.
In a statement shared by the council, Naqvi said his commitments would prevent him from travelling to Nagoya but added that he would be following the matches.
“Wishing all participants the very best ahead of the gold and bronze medal matches at the Asian Games 2026,” Naqvi was quoted as saying.
“Commitments will keep me away from Nagoya, but I’ll be looking forward to some thrilling action.”
Naqvi, who also serves as chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), was previously involved in medal and trophy presentation controversies involving the Indian cricket team.
After winning the ACC Men’s T20 Asia Cup last year, India declined to receive the trophy and medals from Naqvi. The decision initially delayed the tournament’s closing ceremony, which was eventually concluded without the Indian team receiving the silverware.
The trophy subsequently remained with Naqvi.
A similar situation arose following the final of the ACC Women’s T20 Asia Cup last Sunday, when India, after defeating defending champions Sri Lanka in the final, again declined to collect the trophy from Naqvi.
