Islamabad, October 9, 2026: Pakistan and Sweden have explored new avenues for investment cooperation and agreed to strengthen bilateral economic relations through enhanced business partnerships and investment opportunities in key sectors.
The understanding was reached during a meeting between Federal Minister for Board of Investment Qaiser Ahmed Sheikh and Sweden’s Ambassador to Pakistan, Alexandra Berg von Linde, who discussed expanding economic ties and facilitating Swedish investment in Pakistan.
The meeting highlighted the presence of more than 40 Swedish companies in Pakistan and identified potential areas for greater cooperation, including agriculture, mining and minerals, information technology, manufacturing, energy transition and education.
During the meeting, Qaiser Ahmed Sheikh briefed the Swedish ambassador on Pakistan’s Special Economic Zones (SEZs), investment incentives and the role of the Business Facilitation Centre (BFC) in providing one-window services to investors. He also invited Sweden to share recommendations for improving Pakistan’s business environment and addressing challenges faced by foreign investors.
Both sides discussed reviewing and renegotiating the Pakistan–Sweden Bilateral Investment Treaty (BIT), which was signed in 1981. A virtual meeting has been proposed for next week, while the first round of negotiations on the treaty is expected to take place in November 2026.
Ambassador Alexandra Berg von Linde welcomed continued engagement between the two countries and underscored the importance of Swedish business representation in Pakistan. She also expressed interest in supporting Pakistan’s energy transition and exploring further opportunities for cooperation.
The Board of Investment reaffirmed its commitment to facilitating Swedish investment, strengthening business partnerships and unlocking Pakistan’s economic potential through an investor-friendly environment.
