Peshawar, October 16,2026: The Honorary Consulate of Romania in Peshawar has provided financial assistance to families affected by the tragic roof collapse at Al-Khair Education Center, which claimed the lives of at least 34 schoolchildren and a female teacher on Thursday.

The assistance was presented by Abbas Pervaiz, General Manager, to the Administrator of Lady Reading Hospital, Peshawar, on behalf of the Honorary Consulate of Romania and Honorary Consul Massood Ahmad Qazi. The contribution was handed over to the hospital administration to support the bereaved families during this difficult time.

Romanian Ambassador to Pakistan Dr. Dan Stoenescu expressed profound sorrow over the loss of young lives, describing the incident as heartbreaking and saying it had plunged the community into deep mourning.

He said the children had left their homes for school carrying their books and hopes for the future, but would never return to their families. He also expressed grief over the death of the female teacher who lost her life alongside her pupils.

On behalf of the Embassy of Romania, Ambassador Stoenescu extended heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families and wished the injured a full and speedy recovery.

He said that while no words could ease the pain of losing a child, community support and solidarity could provide some strength to the affected families. He reaffirmed Romania’s solidarity with the people of Peshawar during this tragic time.

Honorary Consul Massood Ahmad Qazi said the tragedy had brought immense sorrow to the community, adding that no financial contribution could compensate for the loss of a loved one.

He described the assistance as a modest expression of compassion and a sincere effort to support families facing an unimaginable ordeal. He also prayed for the departed souls, the speedy recovery of the injured, and strength and comfort for the bereaved families.

The Embassy of Romania and its Honorary Consulate in Peshawar also paid tribute to the rescue workers, doctors, nurses and hospital staff who responded to the tragedy and provided medical care and assistance to those affected.

Reaffirming their solidarity with the victims’ families and the people of Peshawar, the Romanian diplomatic missions expressed hope that no community would have to endure such a devastating tragedy again.
