Islamabad, October 18,2026: President of the Maldives Dr. Mohamed Muizzu will undertake a state visit to Pakistan from October 20 to 22 at the invitation of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, with the two countries expected to explore new avenues for cooperation in trade, investment, defence, tourism and other sectors.

According to the Foreign Office, President Muizzu will be accompanied by First Lady Sajidha Mohamed and a high-level delegation comprising cabinet ministers and senior officials.

During the visit, the Maldivian president will meet President Asif Ali Zardari, who will host a state banquet in his honour. He will also hold restricted and delegation-level talks with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif to review bilateral relations and discuss ways to strengthen cooperation across various sectors.

The discussions will cover trade, investment, health, education, tourism, agriculture, defence, maritime security, climate change and people-to-people exchanges. The two sides will also exchange views on regional and international developments of mutual interest.

A Pakistan–Maldives Business Forum will also be held during the visit to promote interaction between the business communities of the two countries and identify new opportunities for trade and investment. Several agreements and memorandums of understanding covering different areas of bilateral cooperation are expected to be signed.

The visit is particularly significant as it will be the first state visit by a Maldivian president to Pakistan in 11 years. It also coincides with the 60th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Pakistan and the Maldives in 1966.

Pakistan and the Maldives maintain cordial and fraternal relations based on shared faith, mutual respect, longstanding goodwill and cooperation at regional and international forums.

The Foreign Office said the forthcoming visit reflected the shared commitment of the two countries to further strengthening their bilateral partnership and expanding mutually beneficial cooperation
