Rawalpindi, October 19,2026: The International Cricket Council (ICC) has fined Pakistan and Sri Lanka for maintaining slow over-rates during the opening match of the ODI tri-series at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium on Sunday.
Pakistan were fined 10 per cent of their match fees after being ruled two overs short of the required rate, while Sri Lanka received a penalty of five per cent for falling one over short, after time allowances were taken into consideration.
According to the ICC, on-field umpires Asif Yaqoob and Wayne Knights, third umpire Sharfuddoula Ibne Shahid and fourth umpire Faisal Afridi levelled the charges.
Match referee Jeff Crowe imposed the sanctions under Article 2.22 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, which governs minimum over-rate offences.
“In accordance with Article 2.22 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, which relates to minimum over-rate offences, players are fined five per cent of their match fee for every over their side fails to bowl in the allotted time,” the ICC said in a statement.
Pakistan captain Shaheen Shah Afridi and Sri Lankan skipper Kusal Mendis pleaded guilty and accepted the proposed sanctions, meaning formal hearings were not required.
The penalties followed an entertaining opening encounter in which Pakistan defeated Sri Lanka by 37 runs.
Salman Ali Agha scored a century to help Pakistan post 305 runs before the hosts’ bowlers restricted Sri Lanka to 268 in 48.1 overs while chasing a target of 306.
Shaheen Afridi led Pakistan’s bowling attack, helping the hosts begin the tri-series with a victory.
