Islamabad, October 22,2026: The Cuban Embassy in Islamabad celebrated Cuban National Culture Day with a gathering of cultural-sector representatives, friends of Cuba and Cuban-Pakistani families, highlighting the role of culture in preserving national identity and promoting solidarity.
The event also commemorated the centenary of Cuban revolutionary leader Fidel Castro and the 50th anniversary of Cuba’s Ministry of Culture.
The celebration opened with an exhibition featuring Cuban paintings in various styles, books, musical instruments and a selection of Cuban cuisine. Audiovisual presentations showcased the country’s art, music and cultural heritage, while a Cuban woman living in Islamabad presented spoken-word poetry.
Addressing the gathering, Cuban Ambassador Damián Cordero Torres thanked the participants and emphasized that culture was not merely a form of entertainment but an essential element of national identity.
He highlighted Fidel Castro’s role in preserving and promoting Cuban culture, describing it as vital to the survival of the Cuban Revolution. The ambassador also underscored the significance of the celebration amid the longstanding US economic blockade against Cuba.
He said Cuba continued to offer the world art, culture and solidarity, adding that Cuba was not a threat, but the blockade was.
The event concluded with participants joining in a chorus rendition of Guantanamera, the iconic Cuban song, celebrating the country’s cultural heritage and spirit of unity.
