Islamabad, October 28,2026: The Pakistan–Turkmenistan Parliamentary Friendship Group, led by its Convener Sanjay Perwani, met Turkmenistan’s Ambassador to Pakistan, Atadjan Movlamov, at Parliament House on Wednesday to discuss strengthening parliamentary ties and expanding bilateral cooperation.
The meeting was attended by National Assembly members Fateh Ullah Khan and Khawaja Izhar ul Hassan.
Welcoming the ambassador, Perwani highlighted the longstanding friendly relations between Pakistan and Turkmenistan, based on mutual respect and friendship. He recalled Pakistan’s early recognition of Turkmenistan’s independence and reaffirmed support for its policy of permanent neutrality.
He emphasised the importance of strengthening inter-parliamentary engagement and proposed establishing a counterpart Parliamentary Friendship Group in the Parliament of Turkmenistan to facilitate regular dialogue and exchanges between the two legislatures.
Discussions focused on enhancing bilateral trade, regional connectivity and economic cooperation. Both sides stressed the importance of finalising and operationalising the Pakistan–Turkmenistan Transit Trade Agreement to facilitate reliable transit routes, particularly given Turkmenistan’s landlocked status.
Ambassador Movlamov highlighted opportunities to expand cooperation in trade, transport, energy and infrastructure, emphasising the development of regional transport corridors.
Both sides also underscored the need to strengthen business-to-business contacts, facilitate trade delegations and explore mutually beneficial economic partnerships.
The meeting highlighted the importance of continued high-level engagement, parliamentary exchanges and cooperation on regional and international issues. Perwani reiterated the need for sustained interaction between the two parliamentary friendship groups and expressed hope that the proposed counterpart group would provide a platform for regular dialogue and practical cooperation.
The meeting concluded with a shared commitment to strengthening Pakistan–Turkmenistan relations through parliamentary diplomacy, expanded trade and economic cooperation, and closer people-to-people ties.
