New Delhi, December 11, 2024: In a major prelude to the 100th birth anniversary celebrations of legendary filmmaker and actor Raj Kapoor, members of the Kapoor family, including Bollywood stars Alia Bhatt, Ranbir Kapoor, and Kareena Kapoor Khan, met Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi yesterday.
The occasion marks a collaboration between RK Films, the Film Heritage Foundation, and the National Film Archive of India (NFDC) to host exclusive screenings of Raj Kapoor’s iconic films.
Kareena Kapoor Khan had earlier announced the centenary festivities on social media. From December 13 to 15, 2024, a nationwide celebration will take place with special screenings of Raj Kapoor’s timeless classics across 40 cities and 135 theaters.
“His legacy lives on. We are so proud to celebrate the 100th birth anniversary of my grandfather, India’s Greatest Showman, Raj Kapoor. Join us from Dec 13-15, 2024, on a nostalgic journey through his most iconic films, screening in 40 cities and 135 cinemas,” Kareena wrote in an Instagram post on December 4.
The film festival will showcase ten of Raj Kapoor’s masterpieces, including Aag, Barsaat, Awaara, Shree 420, and Mera Naam Joker. Screenings will be held at PVR-Inox and Cinepolis theaters, with tickets priced at a symbolic Rs 100.
The Kapoor family’s meeting with PM Modi underscores the significance of this milestone in Indian cinema, celebrating the enduring legacy of the man hailed as “India’s Greatest Showman.”
