Islamabad, December 30, 2024: The construction of Pakistan’s largest nuclear power plant will officially commence today. Provided by China, the Chashma Nuclear Power Plant Unit 5 is expected to generate 1,200 megawatts of nuclear electricity by 2030.

The groundbreaking “First Concrete Pour” ceremony for the project will take place on Monday, with Federal Minister for Planning and Development, Professor Ahsan Iqbal, attending as the chief guest. The project, valued at over $50 billion, will also see the participation of prominent Chinese and Pakistani officials.

Last year, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif graced the groundbreaking ceremony of Chashma 5 as the chief guest. The project is part of Pakistan’s ongoing efforts to enhance energy production and deepen its cooperation with China in the energy sector.
