Islamabad, September 8, 2024-The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) rally in the federal capital turned violent after participants reportedly violated the designated route, leading to clashes with the police. According to an Islamabad police spokesperson, PTI supporters threw stones at law enforcement personnel, injuring several officers, including SSP Safe City. In response, the police fired tear gas to disperse the crowd, while reinforcements from the Frontier Corps (FC) were called in for support.
Rally Continues Despite Deadline
Sources disclosed that the Station House Officer (SHO) of Sangjani Police Station had twice informed rally organizers that their time limit had expired. However, PTI continued with the event despite the deadline.
Citing violations of the No Objection Certificate (NOC), the district administration ordered immediate action against the organizers and participants, directing them to vacate the venue. As per the NOC, the rally was supposed to conclude by 7 PM, but its continuation beyond the permitted time heightened tensions.
