Lahore, February 10, 2025: Kane Williamson’s 13th ODI century powered New Zealand to a six-wicket victory over South Africa in the second match of the tri-nation series at Gaddafi Stadium, Lahore. The win ensures New Zealand’s place in the tournament final, set for February 14 at National Bank Stadium, Karachi.
Put in to bat, South Africa posted 304/6 in 50 overs, thanks to a brilliant 150-run knock by debutant Matthew Breetzke (150 off 148 balls, 11 fours, 5 sixes). He was supported by Wiaan Mulder (64 off 60) and Jason Smith (41 off 51), helping the Proteas cross the 300-run mark.
For New Zealand, Matt Henry and Will O’Rourke picked up two wickets each.
Chasing 305, Devon Conway (97 off 107, 9 fours, 1 six) and Kane Williamson (133 off 113, 13 fours, 2 sixes) forged a crucial 187-run partnership for the second wicket, laying the foundation for victory. New Zealand comfortably reached the target in 48.4 overs.
For South Africa, Senuran Muthusamy was the standout bowler, taking 2/50 in 8.4 overs.
With two consecutive wins—against Pakistan by 78 runs in the opening match and today’s victory over South Africa—New Zealand has secured its place in the tri-nation series final.
Meanwhile, South Africa and Pakistan will clash in a decisive match at National Bank Stadium, Karachi, on February 12. The winner will join New Zealand in the final. The match is scheduled to begin at 2:00 PM local time.
