Akora Khattak, March 1, 2025: The funeral of Maulana Hamidul-Haq Haqqani, chief of Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI-S), was held amid tight security at Darul Uloom Haqqania in Akora Khattak, Nowshera district. A large number of people, including the Afghan Consul General, attended the funeral of the religious leader, who was martyred in a suicide blast at the madrassa following Friday prayers.

The tragic attack claimed multiple lives, including Maulana Hamidul-Haq. Following the incident, a massive gathering assembled at Darul Uloom Haqqania, where his funeral prayers were led by his son, Maulana Sahibzada Abdul Haq Sani. Security was significantly heightened, with police forces deployed in large numbers and scanners installed at entry points to the madrassa.

Alongside Maulana Hamidul-Haq, the funerals of Abdul Waheed and Tajamul Shah (Tajamul Farhan), a poet and writer, were also held. Abdul Waheed’s funeral took place in his native village of Zida, while Tajamul Shah’s was conducted in Jalsai village.

In response to the attack, Inspector General of Police Zulfiqar Hameed visited Nowshera to assess security arrangements for the funeral and later attended a high-level security meeting at the DPO office. Regional and Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) officials briefed him on the progress of the investigation.

Condemning the attack as a cowardly act by the enemies of the nation, the IGP vowed swift justice, urging law enforcement officers to use their expertise to apprehend the perpetrators. He reassured the public that such terrorist acts would not weaken the nation’s resolve, emphasizing that police and the people will work together to counter terrorism and restore peace.
