Islamabad, March 4, 2025: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif marked the completion of his government’s first year with a special meeting of the federal cabinet, where he outlined key achievements and economic progress despite significant challenges.

In his address, the Prime Minister emphasized the government’s efforts to stabilize the economy, particularly in overcoming hurdles related to the International Monetary Fund (IMF) programme. He noted that both he and Army Chief General Asim Munir had engaged with friendly nations to resolve issues affecting the IMF agreement, a move that played a critical role in preventing Pakistan from defaulting and improving the country’s economic indicators.

“Our government has completed one year, and despite facing opposition, we have remained free from scandals. Our commitment to national progress will continue, and we will not waver in our fight against extremism,” PM Shehbaz stated.

Reflecting on the country’s financial struggles a year ago, Shehbaz Sharif recalled that Pakistan was on the brink of default when negotiations with the IMF were underway. He criticized certain individuals for allegedly attempting to sabotage the deal by urging the IMF to reject Pakistan’s programme, calling it an act of “national treachery.”

He highlighted Pakistan’s improving macroeconomic indicators, as recognized by international financial institutions, attributing this progress to the combined efforts of the government, allied nations, and institutions.

Shehbaz Sharif also acknowledged the collaborative measures taken to secure a crucial $5 billion financial gap, crediting both himself and Army Chief General Asim Munir for successfully mobilizing support from friendly countries. He further pointed to a recent boost in Pakistan’s oil facilitation agreement with Saudi Arabia and the UAE, which provided much-needed financial relief.

As part of the government’s commitment to public welfare, the Prime Minister announced a significant expansion in the Ramadan relief package. The allocation has increased from Rs 7 billion last year to Rs 20 billion, benefiting 4 million families across Pakistan, including those in Gilgit-Baltistan and Azad Kashmir.

Shehbaz Sharif concluded his address by stressing the importance of teamwork and national unity in shaping Pakistan’s future.

“The key to our success has been working together. We must not undermine each other but continue striving collectively for the progress of our nation,” he urged.
