Lahore, November 18, 2024 – The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has appointed former fast bowler Aaqib Javed as the interim head coach of the Pakistan men’s cricket team for white-ball formats until the conclusion of the ICC Champions Trophy 2025.
Aaqib, who is currently serving as a senior member of the National Selection Committee, will continue in this role while taking on the additional responsibility of leading the team for the upcoming period.
The PCB also announced plans to initiate the recruitment process for a permanent white-ball head coach, with the goal of finalizing the appointment by the end of the Champions Trophy, scheduled to be held from February 19 to March 9, 2025.
The coaching vacancy arose after the resignation of Gary Kirsten. During Pakistan’s recent tour of Australia, red-ball head coach Jason Gillespie temporarily assumed the role of interim white-ball head coach but will return to his full-time position for the upcoming two-Test series in South Africa.
Pakistan’s immediate schedule includes a series of three ODIs and three T20Is against Zimbabwe, taking place from November 24 to December 5, followed by a white-ball series in South Africa from December 10 to 22. Prior to the Champions Trophy, Pakistan will also host a triangular ODI series with New Zealand and South Africa from February 8-14.
