ISLAMABAD, September 18, 2024-Pakistani cueist Asjad Iqbal secured a bronze medal at the Mongolia Snooker World Cup 2024, held in Ulaanbaatar. Iqbal was narrowly defeated in the semifinals by Cyprus’ Michael Georgiou, with a scoreline of 5-4 (85(85)-0, 80(74)-0, 35-64, 15-62, 24-78, 73-36, 11-74, 76-65(65), 51-08).
In the quarterfinals, Asjad overcame China’s Gao Yang in a thrilling match, winning 4-3 (76-0, 25-64, 0-135(135), 81(76)-34, 65-64, 50(50)-69(69), 69-50). However, Pakistan’s Awais Muneer was defeated by Iran’s Ali Gharahgozlou in another quarterfinal, 4-2 (68-60, 66(58)-64(55), 8-78, 37-65, 66(53)-23, 111(65)-09). The championship final will see Ali Gharahgozlou of Iran face Michael Georgiou of Cyprus.
