Brisbane, December 18, 2024: Persistent rain and bad light brought the third Test between Australia and India to a premature end at the Gabba, leaving the Border-Gavaskar series level at 1-1.
India, resuming at 252/9, were bowled out for 260 early on Day 5, with Akash Deep’s gritty 31 preventing Australia from enforcing the follow-on. However, continuous rain delays made a result unlikely.
Australia’s second innings began after lunch, but Jasprit Bumrah and Akash Deep wreaked havoc, reducing the hosts to 7-89. Bumrah’s 21st wicket of the series highlighted his dominance, while Rishabh Pant’s five catches kept India in contention.
Australia declared, setting India a target of 275 from 54 overs, but rain ended play with India at 0-8 in 2.1 overs. The series now moves to Melbourne for the Boxing Day Test, where India has won their last two matches.
