Islamabad, October 8, 2024 – Four more polio cases have been reported in the country. The cases were detected in Jacobabad, Malir district of Karachi, and Dera Ismail Khan. In Jacobabad’s Tehsil Thul, a 32-month-old girl and an 18-month-old boy were affected by the polio virus.
In Tehsil Bin Qasim of Malir district, a 72-month-old boy was diagnosed with polio, while in Dera Ismail Khan, a 22-month-old boy contracted the virus. This brings the total number of polio-affected children in the country this year to 32. Pakistani authorities and international experts have expressed concern that several more children could contract polio in October. According to experts, the number of polio-affected children in Pakistan could reach between 55 and 65 by the end of the year.
