Islamabad, October 29, 2024 – The government of Pakistan has decided to raise the number of judges in the Supreme Court (SC) from 17 to 23. The SC, therefore, will comprise 23 judges, including the Chief Justice of Pakistan. A bill proposing this increase will be introduced in the National Assembly on Friday, November 1.
Notably, Barrister Danyal Chaudhary from the Pakistan Muslim League (PML-N) has already put forth this bill. To facilitate its approval, the ongoing National Assembly session, initially scheduled to conclude today, has been extended to Friday.
