Rawalpindi, December 2, 2024-Former Prime Minister Imran Khan has been arrested in seven additional cases linked to protests in Islamabad on September 28, October 5, and November 24.
The arrests were formalized during a hearing at Adiala Jail, presided over by Anti-Terrorism Court Judge Amjad Ali Shah. The court placed Khan on judicial remand for all seven cases, as prosecutors did not request physical remand. Investigation teams visited the jail to execute the formal arrests.
Earlier, on November 21, the Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) granted a five-day physical remand in the September 28 vandalism case, later extended by six days. Accusations against Khan and his party, PTI, intensified following the November 24 protest in Islamabad.
On Saturday, the Lahore ATC issued a six-page verdict denying bail to Khan in eight cases related to the May 9 riots. Justice Manzar Ali Gill held Khan responsible for orchestrating the riots, citing evidence including police testimony, audio recordings of incitement, and accounts of meetings in Zaman Park.
The court highlighted that PTI leadership and workers followed Khan’s directives to create chaos, attack military installations, and incite violence. It emphasized that incitement to violence is a grave offense, with significant implications for public order and safety.
