Islamabad, October 20,2024- Federal Law Minister Azam Nazeer Tarar has officially presented the 26th Constitutional Amendment Bill in the Senate, where he is currently addressing the house. The session, chaired by Senate Chairman Yousuf Raza Gilani, is in progress, with 44 members present on the government benches, while opposition members are still arriving.
During the session, Law Minister Tarar tabled the 26th Amendment Bill, which faced no opposition from any members. Earlier in the session, Deputy Prime Minister Senator Ishaq Dar moved a motion to temporarily suspend regular proceedings, which was approved by the Senate.
In his address to the upper house, Law Minister Azam Nazeer Tarar emphasized that extensive consultations had been held with all political parties, including the Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (F). He noted that the government had sought consensus on the proposed amendment through dialogue and deliberation.
The Senate session continues as the members debate the proposed constitutional changes.
