Islamabad, November 26, 2024 – A private TV channel has reported the arrest of a suspect involved in a tragic incident on Islamabad’s Srinagar Highway, where three Rangers personnel were killed, leading to heightened security measures across the city. The military has been deployed, with orders to neutralize any immediate threats.
Security officials confirmed that the incident resulted in the martyrdom of three Rangers personnel and left three others critically injured. Initial reports suggested four fatalities, but the number was later revised. The deceased have been identified as Sepoy Gulfam Khan, Sepoy Shahnawaz, and Naik Muhammad Ramzan.
According to the report, Islamabad police have arrested the suspect accused of running over the Rangers personnel. The suspect, identified as Hashim, son of Asim, is reportedly a resident of the F-10 area in Islamabad. Authorities also seized the vehicle involved in the incident from Shaheen Chowk, subsequently transferring it to Margalla Police Station for further investigation.
PM, COAS attend funeral prayers
Meanwhile the funeral prayers for the three Rangers personnel were offered on Tuesday evening at Chaklala Garrison. According to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the funeral prayers were attended by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, Chief of Army Staff General Asim Munir, and other senior officials.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, speaking on the occasion, strongly condemned the violence, stating, “Such acts of violence test the patience of our law enforcement agencies. Pakistan, as a nation, cannot endure chaos and bloodshed for political ambitions. These actions are not only unacceptable but deeply condemnable.”
The Prime Minister paid tribute to the martyrs, acknowledging their sacrifice as an act of supreme devotion to duty, akin to the Quranic principle of laying down one’s life for the protection of others. He emphasized the need for unity and called upon the nation to renounce violence and uphold peace in accordance with Islamic teachings.
