Dubai, October 16, 2024 – The vibrant atmosphere of GITEX 2024 and Expand North Star was marred for many Pakistani professionals, who found themselves welcomed by Huawei but rejected by Dubai’s visa authorities. Despite the excitement surrounding the event, Pakistani professionals including Mr. Sheikh Wajid Mahmood faced a significant setback as their visa applications were denied, leaving them unable to participate in this prestigious global tech gathering.
In a poignant statement, Mr. Sheikh expressed disappointment over the lack of clarity regarding his appeal against the visa rejection. “Despite this setback, no clarity has been provided on my appeal to the UAE and Dubai authorities,” he stated, highlighting the frustrations of navigating bureaucratic processes that hinder passionate individuals eager to showcase their talents.
Sheikh Wajid Mahmood lamented the apparent lack of support from the Pakistani government, remarking, “It’s disappointing to see the lack of attention and support from the Pakistan government, especially when passionate individuals like myself are discouraged.” This sentiment resonates deeply, as many talented individuals in Pakistan seek opportunities on international platforms to demonstrate their skills and contribute to the global tech landscape. He mentioned that a number of professionals from Pakistan including those working with Huawei failed to showcase their talent at the Gitex 2024 because their visas were rejected by the Dubai authorities.
