Islamabad, December 16, 2024: President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif have strongly condemned a terrorist attack on a polio vaccination team in Karak district, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, which resulted in the martyrdom of a policeman and injuries to a polio worker.
The prime minister directed the relevant authorities to provide immediate medical assistance to the injured and ensure stringent measures to protect vaccination teams.
In separate statements, the president and prime minister expressed profound grief over the loss of life and reiterated their commitment to eradicating polio from Pakistan.
President Zardari called the attackers “enemies of the nation’s future,” stressing that such actions aim to thwart the health and prosperity of the people. He urged parents to actively support the government’s anti-polio campaign by ensuring their children receive polio vaccinations.
Prime Minister Sharif emphasized that the sacrifices of security forces in the fight against polio will not be in vain. “The government remains resolute in its commitment to eradicating polio and will utilize all available resources to ensure the safety of polio workers,” he stated.
The prime minister also condemned the attack, asserting that such incidents will not deter the government’s efforts. “We will not rest until the disease is completely eradicated,” he added.
The tragic incident occurred in Tehsil Banda Daud Shah, Karak district, where unidentified gunmen opened fire on a polio vaccination team, claiming the life of a policeman who was guarding the team and injuring a polio worker.
