Islamabad, October 8, 2024 – Speaker of the National Assembly, Ayaz Sadiq, has formally written to the Election Commission, urging them to expedite their decision regarding reserved seats for women and minorities. This move comes in response to demands from parliamentary leaders.
Sources have claimed that the parliamentary leaders expressed their concern over the Election Commission’s delay in making a decision on seats for women and non-Muslim members, following the passage of the Election Amendment Bill 2024. They had requested Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq to address the issue with the Election Commission, prompting him to send a second letter to the Commission.
Sources indicate that this is the second letter the Speaker has sent, with the first being dispatched on September 19, 2024. The Speaker reminded the Election Commission that the constitutional amendment has already been passed and urged them to finalize the decision as soon as possible.
It is believed that a prompt resolution on these seats will remove any ambiguity, enabling the Parliament to function more effectively and focus on public welfare initiatives.
