Islamabad, November 23, 2024-The National Counter-Terrorism Authority (NACTA) has issued a warning about potential terrorist attacks targeting the upcoming Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) protest in Islamabad, urging heightened vigilance across the capital.
According to the NACTA alert, the extremist group Fitna al-Khawarij is reportedly planning attacks during the PTI protest and other public gatherings in major cities. The authority stated that several operatives associated with the group crossed the Pakistan-Afghanistan border into various cities on the nights of November 19 and 20, raising concerns about public safety.
“There is credible intelligence of a terrorism threat from Fitna al-Khawarij during the PTI protest in Islamabad,” the alert emphasized, calling on law enforcement agencies to remain on high alert and intensify security measures.
Search Operations and Arrests
In response to the threat, Islamabad police have intensified search operations across the city. As of now, 200 individuals suspected of involvement in unlawful activities have been arrested, police sources revealed. Weapons were also recovered during these operations.
A police spokesperson affirmed that public order would be maintained under strict adherence to Islamabad High Court directives. “Section 144 is in effect in the federal capital, and citizens are urged to comply with the law and avoid participation in any illegal activities,” the spokesperson stated.
Security Measures for the PTI Protest
The PTI protest, scheduled for November 24, has already prompted extensive security preparations in the federal capital. The Islamabad police reassured the public that all necessary measures will be taken to ensure the effective enforcement of Section 144 and maintain peace.
This development comes amid heightened tensions as PTI leaders reaffirm their commitment to holding the protest despite government restrictions. Security agencies are on high alert to prevent any untoward incidents.
