Muzaffarabad, March 8, 2025: Two bodies have been recovered from the rubble in Pakistan’s northern regions, two decades after the devastating earthquake of October 8, 2005.

According to the district administration, the remains were discovered during excavation work at the Plate area, where further remains may still be buried. As a precaution, excavation has been halted to reassess the situation. Reports suggest that the bodies were found while removing debris from houses that had been buried under a landslide triggered by the earthquake.

Local councilor Mehmood Baig stated that a large building in the Plate area had collapsed during the earthquake, trapping many students who were residing there. Authorities have confirmed that the bodies will be handed over to their families after DNA testing for identification.

Yasir Josh, a representative of the Disaster Management Red Crescent, noted that the Red Cross had buried numerous bodies at this site in the aftermath of the disaster.
