Lahore, March 17, 2025: Former Pakistan captain Inzamam-ul-Haq has urged cricket authorities to focus on long-term stability rather than frequent changes in team management and selection, stressing that instability is harming Pakistan cricket’s progress.
Speaking to the media, Inzamam pointed to inconsistent decision-making as a major factor behind the team’s declining performance over the past two years.
“In the past two years, Pakistan’s performance has declined. If we don’t take corrective steps, the struggles will continue,” he warned.
He criticized the tendency to repeatedly change coaches, management, and players, arguing that such decisions erode team confidence and prevent cohesion.
“Constant reshuffling does not allow players to gain confidence. Instead of making hasty changes, we need to analyze where the real mistakes are being made.”
The former chief selector also backed Babar Azam, calling him a world-class player facing a temporary slump. However, he stressed that Pakistan’s struggles go beyond individual performances.
“Babar is a top player, but the entire team has been struggling for months. We need a long-term plan instead of short-term fixes.”
Inzamam urged Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) officials to trust the management and players while working on systematic improvements.
“Pakistan cricket needs a clear vision. Trust the management and players, and work together to fix the real issues instead of resorting to constant changes.”
Reflecting on Pakistan’s cricketing legacy, he highlighted the contributions of players from the 1990s, emphasizing their role in shaping the country’s cricketing identity.
“Pakistan cricket would not be the same without the contributions of players from the 90s era.”
