Islamabad, September 14, 2024-The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) sources have clarified that Barrister Gohar Khan has not been officially declared as the Chairman of PTI. This clarification follows the Supreme Court’s 8-member bench issuing a statement concerning reserved seats.
According to ECP sources, the issue of PTI’s intra-party elections is still under review, and no conclusive decision has been reached yet. The ECP has consistently aimed to address this matter promptly, but PTI has frequently employed delaying tactics.
The Supreme Court’s 8-member bench, in its recent clarification on the reserved seats case, emphasized that there is no ambiguity in the July 12 decision. The Court’s short order from that date is explicit, and the Election Commission has unnecessarily complicated its implementation. Non-compliance with the decision could lead to serious consequences. The clarification also reaffirmed that Barrister Gohar is recognized as the PTI Chairman and Umar Ayub as the Secretary General.
