Quetta, April 15, 2025: Three personnel of the Balochistan Constabulary were martyred and 16 others injured on Tuesday when their vehicle was targeted with an improvised explosive device (IED) on Dasht Road in Mastung district.

According to provincial government spokesperson Shahid Rind, the vehicle was returning from Kalat when it was hit by the explosion. He confirmed that 16 personnel sustained injuries, two of whom are in critical condition. The injured were initially shifted to a nearby medical facility, with the critically wounded later transferred to Quetta for advanced treatment.

Following the attack, emergency protocols were activated at both Bolan Medical Complex and Civil Hospital in Quetta.

Security forces promptly cordoned off the area, and a thorough investigation is underway. As of now, no group has claimed responsibility for the incident.

President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif condemned the attack in strong terms. In separate statements, both leaders expressed deep grief over the loss of lives and extended heartfelt condolences to the families of the martyred personnel.

President Zardari prayed for the swift recovery of the injured and reaffirmed the nation’s resolve to eradicate terrorism. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif instructed authorities to ensure the best possible medical treatment for the injured and vowed that the fight against terrorism would continue relentlessly.

“We will defeat the nefarious designs of terrorists — the enemies of humanity. Our struggle will persist until this menace is completely eliminated,” the prime minister said.

Balochistan Chief Minister Sarfraz Bugti also denounced the attack and directed officials to provide the injured with top-notch medical care. He stressed that no negligence would be tolerated and assured the families of the martyrs that the provincial government stands with them in solidarity.

This tragic incident follows last month’s suicide blast near the BNP-Mengal sit-in at Lak Pass, which, fortunately, resulted in no casualties. BNP-Mengal Chief Sardar Akhtar Mengal has been leading a sit-in at Lak Pass for over two weeks, demanding the release of detained women. Despite multiple attempts by PML-N parliamentary leader Salim Khoso and other ministers to negotiate an end to the protest, Mengal has remained steadfast in his demands.
