Wana, South Waziristan, April 28, 2025: A powerful explosion shook Wana Bazaar in Lower South Waziristan on Monday, killing at least six people and injuring 13 others during the busy hours of the day.

According to police officials, the blast was a targeted attack aimed at Saif-ur-Rehman, a former member of the local peace committee. While Rehman was believed to be the primary target, the explosion also caused significant casualties among bystanders.

The blast, which was audible from a considerable distance, triggered widespread panic across the bazaar. Police and rescue teams responded swiftly, transporting the injured and deceased to the District Headquarters (DHQ) Hospital in Wana. Medical teams are working to stabilize those critically wounded, though the identities of the deceased have not yet been confirmed.

Following the incident, security forces cordoned off the area and launched a thorough investigation. Police sources said enhanced security measures have been put in place to prevent further incidents and to assist in collecting evidence from the scene.

The attack has once again raised alarm over the fragile security situation in South Waziristan, where incidents of targeted violence have been on the rise in recent months.
