Islamabad, April 28, 2025: The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has issued an alert warning that the ongoing heatwave will continue across the country until April 30, driven by the development of a high-pressure system in the upper atmosphere.
According to the PMD, southern regions, including Sindh, southern Punjab, and Balochistan, will experience daytime temperatures 5 to 7°C above normal through the end of the month. Central and northern areas, encompassing central and upper Punjab, Islamabad, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Kashmir, and Gilgit-Baltistan, are also expected to face temperatures 4 to 6°C higher than usual.
Several cities, including Lahore, Peshawar, Sargodha, and Multan, are forecast to see temperatures reach or exceed 40°C. Meanwhile, extreme heat is predicted for Sukkur, Nawabshah, Mithi, Sibi, and Turbat, where mercury levels could climb to 45°C or higher.
On Sunday, Nawabshah recorded the highest temperature in the country, soaring to 48°C.
In Karachi, temperatures are expected to range between 36°C and 38°C, with humidity levels at 76 percent and sea breezes blowing at a speed of 9 kilometres per hour.
In response to the intensifying heat, the Punjab Education Department has announced an early start to summer vacations. According to a notification issued on Monday, all schools across Punjab will begin their summer break from June 1.
The PMD has urged citizens to take necessary precautions to protect themselves from heat-related illnesses during this period of extreme weather.
