Chattogram, May 1, 2025: A masterful all-round performance by Mehidy Hasan Miraz led Bangladesh to a thumping innings and 106-run victory over Zimbabwe in the second Test at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium, leveling the two-match series 1-1 on Wednesday.

After Zimbabwe won the toss and elected to bat, they were bowled out for 227 in the first innings. Bangladesh responded with a dominant 444, powered by a composed 120 from Shadman Islam and a brilliant 104 from Mehidy Hasan, who proved decisive with both bat and ball.

Facing a 217-run deficit, Zimbabwe collapsed for a mere 111 in their second innings, lasting less than two sessions on day four. Only Ben Curran (46) showed any resistance, while no other batter managed to cross 25 runs.

Mehidy Hasan was the undisputed star of the match, claiming 5 for 31 in the second innings — his third five-wicket haul of the series. He finished the series with 15 wickets, having taken 10 in the first Test in Sylhet. Left-arm spinner Taijul Islam also excelled, picking up 3 for 42 and ending the match with nine wickets.

Zimbabwe’s debutant Vincent Masekesa provided a rare highlight for the visitors, registering 5 for 115 in Bangladesh’s innings — becoming only the third Zimbabwean to take five wickets on debut after Andy Blignaut and John Nyumbu.

However, Masekesa’s milestone was overshadowed by Bangladesh’s overwhelming dominance. Resuming on 291 overnight, the hosts added 153 runs thanks to useful lower-order contributions from Taijul Islam (20) and Tanzim Hasan Sakib (41), further extending their lead.

This marks Zimbabwe’s second successive defeat by an innings in Chattogram, and the second time they’ve suffered an innings-and-106-run loss to Bangladesh — the first coming in Dhaka in 2020.
