Karachi, June 24, 2025: Pakistan’s ace cueist Muhammad Asif powered into the semi-finals of the 2025 Asian 6-Red Snooker Championship with an impressive 5-3 victory over Malaysia’s Lim Kok Leong in a thrilling quarter-final clash on Tuesday.
Asif, a two-time IBSF World Champion, started the match in dominant fashion, producing a 67-point break in the opening frame to set the tone for the contest. He followed up with a solid 43-21 win in the second frame to take a commanding 2-0 lead.
The third frame proved to be a gritty battle, but Asif held his nerve to edge ahead 3-0, putting himself firmly in control. However, Leong mounted a determined comeback, claiming the next two frames to narrow the deficit to 3-2.
Unfazed, Asif regained control in the sixth frame with a 38-25 win, moving to within one frame of the semi-final berth. Although Leong struck back strongly in the seventh with a 68-0 whitewash, Asif sealed the match in the eighth frame with a composed 41-21 finish, completing a 5-3 triumph.
He will now face another Malaysian cueist, Thor Chuan Leong, in the semi-final on Wednesday.
Asif has been in sensational form throughout the tournament. He began his campaign in the group stage with a 4-1 victory over Cambodia’s Neang Tola, registering frame scores of 37-17, 47-0, 9-59, 44-0, and 39-9.
He then cruised past Oman’s Abdullah Al Raisi with a 4-0 win to advance to the knockout stage.
In the pre-quarterfinals, Asif once again dominated Neang Tola with a 5-1 win, securing his place in the last eight.
With his current form and composure under pressure, Muhammad Asif remains a strong contender for the Asian 6-Red title as he eyes another major international triumph.
