Karachi, July 2, 2025: Pakistan and Ethiopia on Wednesday reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening bilateral relations by expanding economic and cultural cooperation, enhancing people-to-people exchanges, and improving air connectivity through direct flights.
The discussions took place at the Sindh Chief Minister’s House in Karachi during a high-level meeting between Dr. Jemal Beker Abdula, Special Envoy and Ambassador Extraordinary of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia, and Syed Murad Ali Shah, Chief Minister of Sindh. Also present at the meeting was Ibrahim Khalid Tawab, Honorary Consul of Ethiopia in Karachi.
Both sides explored promising avenues for collaboration in critical sectors including trade, investment, agriculture, agro-processing, climate change, technology, and culture.
Ambassador Dr. Jemal Beker underscored the urgency of exchanging knowledge and expertise to tackle the pressing challenges of climate change, particularly its manifestations in the form of floods, droughts, and environmental degradation. He highlighted Ethiopia’s Green Legacy Initiative, launched by Prime Minister Dr. Abiy Ahmed, as a successful national model for ecological restoration, biodiversity conservation, poverty alleviation, and food security.
“Ethiopia is a leading example of green economic development in Africa,” the Ambassador remarked, noting that the country has planted more than 40 billion seedlings in just six years—an achievement that has generated employment and improved food security both within Ethiopia and in the broader region.
The Ambassador extended a formal invitation to Chief Minister Shah to attend the Single Country Exhibition of Pakistan being organized in Ethiopia in October 2025, expressing hope that his presence would further elevate bilateral ties.
Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah welcomed the invitation and expressed keen interest in visiting Ethiopia soon. He commended the significant role of Ethiopian Airlines in fostering stronger people-to-people relations and facilitating connectivity between the two nations.
He also lauded Ethiopia’s green development achievements under Prime Minister Dr. Abiy Ahmed and assured the Ambassador of Sindh’s full support in further advancing bilateral and multilateral cooperation between Pakistan and Ethiopia.
