Islamabad, July 7, 2025: Lawmakers who were suspended from the National Assembly and provincial assemblies last year will now receive their basic salaries for the duration of their suspension, parliamentary sources confirmed.

The development follows the Supreme Court’s verdict reinstating a majority of the legislators who were suspended on May 13, 2024, over legal or procedural grounds. At the time, all salary disbursements were halted immediately upon issuance of suspension notices.

According to the new directive, the reinstated members will be compensated for the suspension period with basic salaries only, excluding any Travelling Allowance, Daily Allowance (TADA), or other perks.

Of the 22 suspended members of the National Assembly, 19 have so far been reinstated, while three seats remain pending. Each of the reinstated MNAs will be paid a basic salary of Rs150,000 per month for the period from May 13 to December 31, 2024.

From January 1, 2025, onward, their salaries will be adjusted to reflect any applicable increases, with payments continuing up to the date of the court’s reinstatement order.

Similarly, 55 members of various provincial assemblies, also suspended on May 13, 2024, will receive payments in accordance with the salary structure laid out in their respective provincial legislation.

While the government has committed to fulfilling the Supreme Court’s reinstatement order, it has reiterated its policy of fiscal restraint by withholding all additional allowances and benefits for the suspension period.
