Lahore, October 26,2026: Pakistan fast bowler Haris Rauf said he had believed from the outset that Pakistan could defeat England, while batter Shadab Khan credited his teammate for urging him to take a review that proved crucial in their dramatic one-wicket victory at Gaddafi Stadium.
Speaking to PCB Digital after Sunday’s thrilling ODI tri-series encounter, Haris said he had assured Shadab in the closing stages that he would help finish the match.
“The way Shadab batted was world-class,” Haris said, adding that the victory was also a moment of great happiness for the people of Pakistan.
Shadab, who scored an unbeaten 113 off 96 balls, revealed that he had not realised the ball had taken an inside edge off his bat when he was given out leg-before-wicket on 97.
He said Haris insisted that he review the decision, which was subsequently overturned, allowing him to continue his innings.
Shadab admitted he had been deeply disappointed after the initial decision but was pleased to have repaid the confidence placed in him by the selectors and team management.
Pakistan had slumped to 154-9 while chasing England’s target of 243 before Shadab and Haris produced an unbeaten 89-run partnership to pull off a remarkable victory.
The stand was the highest 10th-wicket partnership in a successful men’s ODI run chase, surpassing the previous record of 64 runs set by West Indies’ Deryck Murray and Andy Roberts against Pakistan in 1975.
Shadab’s maiden international century, combined with Haris’s unbeaten seven off 19 balls, took Pakistan to 243-9 in 47.1 overs.
Haris struck the winning boundary to seal the victory and confirm Pakistan’s place in the ODI tri-series final.
Shadab also registered the highest individual ODI score by a batter batting at No. 8 or lower, capping a remarkable comeback after Pakistan had been reduced to their last wicket.
