Islamabad, July 17, 2025: Senior Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader and Chairman of the Senate Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs, Senator Irfan Siddiqui, met with former Federal Information Minister Muhammad Ali Durrani in Islamabad on Thursday for a wide-ranging discussion on the country’s current political landscape.

During the meeting, both leaders underscored the pressing need for political stability in Pakistan, with Durrani emphasizing that dialogue remains the only viable path forward in the face of internal and external challenges.

“Politics is the art of unlocking closed doors and advancing despite differences,” Durrani remarked, stressing that the government must show magnanimity by creating space for inclusive political engagement. He urged experienced and level-headed leaders to step up and play a reconciliatory role in easing tensions.

Senator Siddiqui reaffirmed the PML-N’s commitment to dialogue under the leadership of Muhammad Nawaz Sharif. “Our democratic tradition is rooted in open communication. We have never believed in shutting doors to engagement,” he said.

He pointed to Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s previous overtures toward opposition parties, regretting that Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) had instead opted for confrontation. “It is unfortunate that PTI consistently chooses street agitation over political dialogue,” Siddiqui stated.

Acknowledging Durrani’s constructive stance, Siddiqui said that while political differences and historical grievances exist, the way forward lies in learning from the past and embracing democratic discourse.

“Only through such mature and democratic behavior can Pakistan navigate its current challenges and progress as a nation,” he concluded.
