Islamabad, July 27, 2025: The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has forecast a fresh spell of monsoon rains across the country starting Monday (July 28), warning of possible urban flooding, flash floods, and landslides in vulnerable areas.

According to the Met Office, widespread rainfall is expected from July 28 to 31 in Islamabad, several parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and major cities across Punjab. The Chenab and Jhelum rivers may see significant rises in water levels during this period, raising flood concerns.

In Balochistan, rain is forecast from July 29 to 31, while Sindh is likely to experience showers between July 30 and 31. Some regions could witness heavy downpours, triggering flash floods in local streams and urban flooding in low-lying areas. Landslides are also possible in mountainous regions, the PMD cautioned.

Meanwhile, in Hafizabad’s Sukheke area, residents continue to suffer due to standing rainwater in several villages, which remains undrained even after ten days. Road access has been severely disrupted, affecting daily life and emergency services.

In Kashmore, water levels in the Indus River at Guddu Barrage are steadily rising, with fluctuations also reported at Taunsa Barrage. In Layyah, more than 70 villages have been submerged due to the river’s overflow, prompting ongoing rescue and relief operations by local authorities.

Additionally, the Rawal Dam in Islamabad has reached a water level of 1,750 feet. As a safety measure, the dam’s spillways have been opened to release excess water and prevent structural strain.

Authorities have urged residents, particularly in flood-prone and low-lying areas, to remain alert and follow updates from relevant departments.
