Islamabad, October 23,2026: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to the purposes and principles of the United Nations Charter, calling for respect for the sovereignty of states, non-interference in their internal affairs, the right to self-determination and the peaceful settlement of disputes.
In his message on United Nations Day, observed on October 24, the prime minister said Pakistan joined the international community in marking the 81st anniversary of the UN Charter and renewing its commitment to the principles underpinning international peace and security.
He expressed concern that several fundamental principles of the charter continued to be violated with impunity across the world, particularly in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK) and occupied Palestine.
The prime minister also paid tribute to UN peacekeepers and personnel who had sacrificed their lives in the line of duty, particularly those from Pakistan.
He said Pakistan took immense pride in its contributions to UN peacekeeping missions and its efforts under the UN flag to promote international peace and security.
Shehbaz Sharif acknowledged the vital role of various UN agencies and their assistance programmes in addressing humanitarian challenges, promoting health and education, and supporting development priorities worldwide, particularly in developing countries.
Reaffirming Pakistan’s commitment to multilateralism, the prime minister said the United Nations must remain at the centre of international efforts to address the numerous challenges facing the world.
He reiterated Pakistan’s resolve to work closely with UN member states and the organisation to advance the vision of the UN Charter and help achieve peace and prosperity for all.
