Lahore, August 11, 2025: The Punjab Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has forecast the arrival of the next spell of monsoon rains from August 13 and issued a flood advisory for major rivers and adjoining areas.

According to a PDMA spokesperson, advisories have been issued for the Sutlej, Ravi, Chenab, and Jhelum rivers, along with nearby streams and nullahs, warning of potential flooding during the seventh spell of the monsoon season.

Water levels in major rivers across Punjab are expected to rise, prompting the PDMA to instruct commissioners, deputy commissioners, and relevant departments to remain on high alert. Departments placed on standby include local government, agriculture, irrigation, health, forests, livestock, and transport.

PDMA Director General Irfan Ali Kathia directed all concerned agencies to complete preparations in advance, in line with the Punjab Chief Minister’s instructions. He emphasised that emergency control rooms must remain operational 24/7 and Rescue 1122’s disaster response teams should be ready for immediate deployment.

Authorities have been instructed to keep the public informed, ensure timely evacuation of residents and livestock from riverbeds, and enforce compliance with safety guidelines.

Appealing to citizens, the DG urged people to avoid swimming in rivers, canals, streams, and ponds, and to cooperate with officials in the event of emergency evacuations. He advised the public to contact the PDMA helpline 1129 for assistance in emergencies.
