Pakistan urges Israel’s accountability after deadly Gaza airstrike

Islamabad, August 11, 2025: Pakistan on Monday strongly condemned an Israeli airstrike in Gaza that killed numerous civilians, calling it a blatant violation of international humanitarian and human rights law.

In an official statement, the Foreign Office (FO) expressed “deepest condolences” to the victims’ families and reaffirmed “unwavering solidarity with the Palestinian people” during what it described as a period of profound suffering.

FO spokesperson Shafqat Ali Khan denounced the attack as an egregious crime by the occupying power, urging the international community to take “immediate and decisive action” to end Israeli impunity, protect civilians, and hold Israel accountable.

Reiterating Pakistan’s longstanding support for the Palestinian cause, the statement called for a just and sustainable solution based on relevant UN Security Council resolutions, including the creation of an independent Palestinian state within pre-June 1967 borders, with Al-Quds Al-Sharif as its capital.

According to Reuters, Palestinians reported the heaviest bombardment in weeks on Monday in areas east of Gaza City, shortly after Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu signaled plans to complete an expanded offensive against Hamas “fairly quickly.”

An airstrike at Gaza City’s Al Shifa Hospital compound killed six journalists, including veteran Al Jazeera correspondent Anas Al Sharif, marking the deadliest strike against media workers in Israel’s nearly 22-month-long campaign.

Witnesses reported intense shelling and air raids on Sabra, Zeitoun, and Shejaia, forcing families to flee westward. Residents described the assault as one of the worst nights in recent weeks, heightening fears of a deeper offensive into Gaza City — now sheltering about one million displaced people.
