Islamabad, August 19, 2025: Dr. Jemal Beker Abdula, Special Envoy and Ambassador Extraordinary of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia, called on President Asif Ali Zardari at Aiwan-e-Sadr on Tuesday and conveyed Ethiopia’s solidarity with Pakistan in its struggle against climate change.
The envoy offered heartfelt condolences over the loss of precious lives in the recent flash floods across Pakistan. He noted that although Pakistan contributes minimally to global emissions, it is bearing a disproportionate brunt of climate-induced disasters.
“Ethiopia stands with the government and people of Pakistan in their fight against climate change,” Dr. Beker said, reaffirming his country’s support during these testing times.
President Zardari, while appreciating Ethiopia’s expression of solidarity, said Pakistan values its close ties with Ethiopia and looks forward to further deepening cooperation in diverse fields, including peace and security, trade, investment, aviation, science and technology, climate change, culture, and tourism.
Reiterating Pakistan’s commitment to strengthening bonds with African nations under the “Look Africa and Engage Africa” policy, the President lauded Ethiopia’s leading role in regional integration and its global efforts on the climate agenda.
