Islamabad, August 22, 2025: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif will pay an official visit to the United States next month, where he is expected to meet US President Donald Trump.
During his stay, the Prime Minister will also address the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in New York. Before arriving in Washington, Shehbaz Sharif will make a stopover in the United Kingdom. Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar will accompany him and is scheduled to hold a meeting with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio.
Meanwhile, preparations are underway for Secretary of State Marco Rubio’s upcoming visit to Pakistan, which is expected in October.
It is noteworthy that the US recently imposed a 19 percent tariff on Pakistani exports—10 percent lower than the initially proposed rate. In comparison, President Trump levied a 25 percent tariff on India and 20 percent on Bangladesh.
Officials expressed hope that the new tariff arrangement would open fresh opportunities for Pakistan in the American market, strengthening the country’s export potential, particularly in the textile sector, which serves as the backbone of Pakistan’s exports.
