Sukkur, September 9, 2025: Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari on Tuesday called on the federal government to declare an agricultural emergency and prioritize flood relief, as devastating floods continue to wreak havoc across Punjab.

During his visit to the Sukkur Barrage in Sindh, Bilawal expressed solidarity with flood-hit communities in Multan, Kasur, and Jalalpur Pirwala, describing the destruction as “heartbreaking.” He said thousands of families have lost their homes, crops, and livelihoods.

Criticizing the government’s “delayed response,” Bilawal said Punjab’s flood victims had been waiting for assistance for over two weeks, while Sindh was comparatively better prepared. He urged the federal government to channel aid through the Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP) to ensure quick relief in both Punjab and Sindh, pledging to raise the issue with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.

Bilawal also warned residents of riverine areas to evacuate, saying climate change has made flooding more destructive and requires a comprehensive policy overhaul.

On water management, the PPP chairman reaffirmed support for constructing new dams, but strongly opposed “controversial projects on the Indus River.” He emphasized that inter-provincial coordination was vital to protecting vulnerable communities and safeguarding national food security.

“No single provincial government can tackle this crisis alone,” Bilawal stressed. “Collective efforts are essential to help the victims and protect the country’s future.”
