Karachi/Quetta, June 7, 2026: Dr Mahnoor, the female doctor who was critically injured in an acid attack in Quetta earlier this week, is receiving specialised treatment at Aga Khan University Hospital (AKUH) in Karachi, where doctors have reported her condition as stable.
According to hospital sources, Dr Mahnoor underwent a comprehensive medical evaluation on Sunday after being shifted to Karachi for advanced treatment. The assessment revealed that approximately 13 per cent of her body sustained acid burns during the attack.
The injuries affected multiple parts of her body, including her face, abdomen, thighs, and right hand. Both of her eyes were also impacted by the acid; however, doctors confirmed that her eyesight remains intact.
Following detailed examinations by teams of plastic surgeons and ophthalmologists, Dr Mahnoor was moved to the hospital’s Special Care Unit for continued monitoring and treatment. Another medical assessment is scheduled within the next 24 hours to evaluate her recovery and determine the next phase of treatment.
Hospital sources described her overall condition as stable and satisfactory, although no official statement has yet been issued by the hospital administration.
Meanwhile, a young man who was injured while attempting to rescue Dr Mahnoor during the attack remains under treatment at a hospital in Quetta. Balochistan Chief Minister Sarfraz Bugti contacted the injured individual to inquire about his health and praised his courage and selflessness in trying to save the doctor.
The acid attack has sparked widespread outrage across the country and renewed calls for stricter measures against gender-based violence.
Authorities continue to investigate the incident. The prime suspect, identified as Humayun Shah, was killed during a police encounter near Nushki Bus Stop after allegedly opening fire on law enforcement personnel during a district-wide manhunt launched following the attack.
Police officials said the investigation remains ongoing to determine whether any accomplices were involved and to establish the full circumstances surrounding the assault.
The attack on Dr Mahnoor has drawn strong condemnation from civil society, medical professionals, and human rights advocates, who have demanded swift justice and enhanced protection for women against violent crimes.
